This week we welcome Talisa Almonte, an Afro-Dominican artist, illustrator and muralist based in Queens. After working in the fashion industry for seven years and following the loss of her father, Talisa established Almonte Studio, a creative business honoring his memory. Her colorful work is inspired by Latin American culture, New York City and the idea of spreading joy in all that she creates.

“My work combines my love for bold color usage, New York City, specifically Queens, my Latin heritage and wanting to evoke positive and uplifting emotions through my work,” she writes.

“If I could describe my work in one word, it would be celebratory, whether that’s through color, subject matter, or the community and energy involved to create it.”
