This week we welcome Srinath Vadapalli, a New Jersey-based artist. He studied painting and printmaking in Hyderabad and Baroda universities in India, and has received scholarships to study in France and London, where he also taught printmaking. Since 2016 he has worked with the Educational Services Commission of New Jersey. He is the recipient of a 2024 fellowship from the NJ State Council on the Arts. Vadapalli’s upcoming solo exhibition opens at La Galerie Adrienne in Trenton, NJ on March 14 and runs through April 30.

The concepts behind Vadapalli’s work emerges from personal experiences reflecting numerous shifts and transitions encountered during the artist’s travels and relocations. This sense of movement and change is a recurring theme, highlighting the fluid nature of life and the impact of different cultures and settings. The use of visual and literary tools, such as metaphor and verbal pun, adds layers of meaning and invites viewers to engage with the artworks on multiple levels.

His familial background in literature and music has played a prominent role in shaping his aesthetic approach. This heritage informs the visual language and compositional techniques employed in the artworks. The integration of these elements strives for a harmonious balance between visual appeal and intellectual depth.

Blending painting and printmaking techniques, Vadapalli utilizes paper pulps made with cotton rags, jute, banana and fig fibers combined with natural color pigments and earthy colors which are largely self-prepared.
