Mayor Eric Adams on Monday announced that with more than 96% of city workers fully vaccinated, the city will make the vaccine optional for current and prospective city employees effective this Friday, Feb. 10. The city will also no longer require visitors at New York City public schools to be vaccinated.

And what happens to the approximately 1,780 former employees terminated for not getting vaccinated by the deadline? The mayor announced that while they will not automatically return to their previous positions, they will be able to apply for positions with their former agencies through existing city rules, regulations and hiring processes. Additionally, nonpublic school, early child care, and daycare staff will no longer be required to be vaccinated. Read more here.
