World Cup tickets for just $50: Mayor Zohran Mamdani announced that 1,000 New Yorkers can see the games at a low cost.
Headlines have swirled as ticket prices for World Cup matches have reached into the tens of thousands of dollars, putting the games out of reach for many New Yorkers.
“A World Cup is coming to our backyard, and we want to ensure working-class New Yorkers have the opportunity to be part of it,” said Mamdani at a Thursday press conference in Harlem.
The lottery opens May 25 for New York City residents ages 15 and up. Five group-stage and two knockout matches will be available, with approximately 150 tickets per game. Free round-trip transportation will be provided.
To enter, residents must register at www.regnyctix.com between 10 a.m. on Monday, May 25 and midnight on Saturday, May 30. You can only register once per day, and entries are capped at 50,000 people per day.
Those selected will be notified Wednesday June 3, and each winner can buy up to two seats. Tickets will be non-transferrable to prevent scalping, the Mamdani administration said in a press release, and will be handed directly to game-goers before boarding transportation to the New York New Jersey Stadium (MetLife Stadium).
“A kid in the Bronx, a security guard in Queens, a restaurant worker in Brooklyn or Staten Island — they are going to walk into the stadium this summer because their city fought for them to be there,” said New York City World Cup Czar Maya Handa.
