Changes to federal health insurance programs under President Donald Trump’s 2025 tax law are expected to drive up insurance costs across the city and increase the number of New Yorkers who lose health coverage. In response, the city is promoting its sexual health clinics as a source of low- and no-cost care.

The clinics offer low- and no-cost STI and HIV testing, preventive treatment for HIV with the PrEP and PEP medications, contraception, emergency contraception, vaccines and medication abortion.

To get the word out before the changes to Medicaid and the state’s Essential Plan, a free insurance program for lower-income New Yorkers who don’t qualify for federal coverage, the city is running a public awareness campaign. The city’s Department of Health and Mental Hygiene is running the ads across dating apps, social media, digital ads and YouTube through the end of the month, but services at the clinics are year-round (except for specific closures listed below). Care is available regardless of insurance status, immigration status, income, language, gender identity or sexual orientation, according to a Health Department statement

Most services are walk-in and available for patients ages 12 and older. All six clinics below are open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Some sites also offer evening or express testing.

What’s available

  • STI testing, screening and treatment
  • HIV testing, treatment initiation, PrEP and PEP
  • Doxy-PEP for STI prevention
  • Birth control (pills, rings, patches, shots, IUDs, implants)
  • Emergency contraception
  • Vaccines (HPV, hepatitis A/B, mpox, meningitis)
  • Medication abortion

New Services

All clinics now offer treatment for patients with bacterial vaginosis (BV) and their partners, whether male or female. BV, which can cause vaginal discomfort and pain, occurs when the natural balance of bacteria in the vagina is disrupted and certain bacteria overgrow.
