This week we welcome Mauricio Monroy, a Colombian artist based in Brooklyn. Monroy’s mediums include drawing and painting, and a unique approach to creating artwork using colored string.

He is drawn to sacred geometries; the underlying structures present in the natural and human-made world. Monroy’s process for his landscapes typically begins by photographing urban landscapes and then recreating them in string.

“My inspiration is connected to nature, people, animals, and landscapes. I create works that reveal an underlying geometry. What I love about working with string is the texture created out of spiral movements,” he says.
