I have benefited immensely from the power of mentorship rooted in radical candor. I wish more people had that right now.

Here at Epicenter, we’ve been hearing from dozens of people struggling to find or navigate work. And we’ve been observing some real rifts in how workers across generations might be communicating past each other. Finally, as a small publisher embracing generative AI to support our content creation and production, fundamental changes in how we work as well as outright displacement of some roles are inevitable. (By the way, we discussed with McKinsey’s Kweilin Ellingrud, co-author of “The Broken Rung,” the importance of tech fluency as key to staying ahead and how the real threat with AI is not knowing how to use it.)

Now’s the time to get practical about how early-career professionals can adapt to this new way of work.. Please join us next Thursday, Aug. 14 for an event we’re holding at the World’s Borough Book Shop. Here’s the event information:

Whether you’re starting your first internship or “corporate” job, or just trying to figure out what “professional” means in today’s remote, hybrid, or distributed world, this convo is for you. Join us for an interactive, real talk on how to show up, speak up and stand out at work — and how to start paving your way up the ranks. We’ll break down how to craft a pitch, what it really means to be “camera-ready” for interviews or public-facing moments, and why your digital presence matters more than you think — even if your accounts are private.

Space is limited, secure your spot here

We’ll talk about some basic and blunt dos and don’ts, from how to show up to meetings whether they are on Zoom or in person, to how interviews are shifting to be more of a conversation and what that means for your candidacy. We’ll have folks on hand to talk about who is getting hired and their secrets (note: written thank-you notes, ftw) as well as some basic training on your social media presence.
