Self Portrait 3.0, bronze and marble, 11 x 8 x 8 inches

This we welcome sculptor Abhishek Tuiwala. Tuiwala was born in Gujarat, India, and currently lives and works in New Jersey. In school he initially focused on science, before eventually realizing that the arts, particularly sculpture, appealed to him more. He earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts with a major in sculpture from Veer Narmad South Gujarat University in Surat, India; then came to New York City for a Master’s degree in Sculpture at Pratt Institute.

His focus lies in metal works, wood works, installation and graphite drawings. Tuiwala has been included in numerous exhibits in the U.S., India and South Korea. Tuiwala employs an amalgamation of abstraction and figuration in the process of making his work.

This push and pull is what adds tension and engages his viewers. Navigating these supposed binaries is a challenge that many artists face, and finding his own way forward is what keeps him engaged.
