Nestled at the base of the Pocono Mountains, Jim Thorpe is a picturesque town full of European charm. At around 2.5 hours from New York City, you’ll feel like you’ve traveled far beyond Pennsylvania.
No trip to Jim Thorpe is complete without a ride on the Lehigh Gorge Scenic Railway. Hop on the vintage train coach and ride along the Lehigh River as you ride over bridges, through mountains, and through Lehigh Gorge State Park.
Spend time walking up and down Broadway, checking out all of the quaint mom and pop shops. Be sure to stop by Rainbow’s End, a vintage candy store that also sells ice cream and Somersault Letterpress- a stationary store where everything is made using old vintage presses from the 1930s and 50s. Then, head over to Marion Hose bar, located in a historic firehouse featuring local crafted beers, fine wines and cocktails.
If tours are your thing, make time for one of Jim Thorpe’s experiences, including ghost tours, a sidecar tour or a tour of Asa Packer Mansion. Before heading home, stop in for some live music at Broadway Grille during their live music nights, or catch a show at the Mauch Chunk Opera House.
