This week we welcome Amy Bassin, a multidisciplinary visual artist who seeks to express the fraught relationship between outward appearance and inner life through unconventional photography, video, artist books, and works on paper.  Informed by a background in abstract drawing and painting, Bassin strives to find fresh introspection beyond the representation of any captured reality.

“Curtains of War” is a series of mixed media photo-based prints on fabric created from appropriated and altered photojournalistic images of past and present wars. These “curtains” chronicle a backdrop of military destruction affecting cities and displaced people, alongside other ravishes of war, providing a window into the urgent need for peace.”
