A self-taught painter’s journey across continents and cultures
This week we welcome Alejandro Pinzón, a Colombian visual artist whose work is grounded in the naive style. Over the course of an artistic practice spanning more than 37 years, he has developed a body of work distinguished by a vibrant color palette, narrative precision and sensitive portrayals of everyday life and Colombian cultural identity. His paintings have been exhibited in prominent galleries, museums and cultural institutions in Colombia and abroad.

Pinzón continues to expand his artistic practice from his base in Brooklyn, where he actively participates in curatorial projects, collective exhibitions, and cultural initiatives that highlight the work of Latin American artists. His work is characterized by meticulously crafted landscapes, figures and scenes that evoke the affective memory of his homeland, creating a bridge between tradition and contemporary artistic expression.

In addition to his studio practice, Pinzón is committed to cultural outreach and the promotion of naive art, contributing to the development of spaces for intercultural dialogue and artistic appreciation. His work, recognized for its authenticity and technical rigor, positions him as a notable representative of Colombian naïf art within the international artistic community.

In Pinzón’s words: “I reflect in my artworks everything that makes me worry or surrounds me. I search for inspiration in memories, experiences, stories, histories, music and the customs of the town where I grew up. My paintings are the fruit of deep daily work made during more than 30 years. I have found this as a way to materialize these memories in which I shape my own expression through naive or primitivist painting.”
