If you or an elderly loved one needs an affordable place to live, consider entering this housing lottery in Astoria, Queens. Apartments start at $1,500 per month. 

The studio and two-bedroom units were created with older adults in mind. For example, bathrooms have showers that allow seniors to walk in rather than lifting their legs over a traditional bathtub.

Households that apply must have at least one person who is 62 years old or older at the time of the application. Pets are allowed.

The building is located at 3-11 27 Avenue. It’s smoke-free, has an accessible entrance and features energy-efficient appliances, including an in-unit washer and dryer, plus a community center and security cameras.

Studio rents are $1,500 per month and two bedrooms are $1,900 per month.
