Brooklyn’s Gowanus neighborhood has seen a lot of change in recent years, including skyrocketing rent prices. However, a soon-to-end lottery is giving New Yorkers a chance to rent an affordable home.
The lottery for 499 President Street is currently open on Housing Connect. It is offering 88 affordable housing apartments, ranging from studios to one-bedrooms. Families who earn between $31,235 and $167,700 a year are eligible. The prices are:
- Studios: $784 to $2,185 a month
- One-bedrooms: $828 to $2,329 a month
- Two-bedrooms to $967 to $2,768 a month
Building amenities include a fitness center with a yoga studio, an in-unit washer and dryer, a garage with electric charging stations, bike storage, a coworking lounge and a rooftop and terrace. The neighborhood has plenty to offer, including cafes, community art galleries, and boutiques.
This lottery closes on Feb. 3. You can apply online here or by mail. Directions to apply by mail can be found in that link.
