Looking for truly affordable housing for seniors in Queens? Astoria Towers II in East Elmhurst is now accepting applications for 73 newly constructed studio and one-bedroom apartments. The lottery closes soon, on Monday, May 5.
The building is reserved for households with at least one member aged 62 or older. These are Project-Based Section 8 apartments, meaning tenants pay 30% of their income toward rent — and utilities are included.
Income eligibility ranges from $0 to $69,900 for households of up to three people. Yes, even if you have no income, you can still apply. That’s because this development is part of two city initiatives: the Extremely Low & Low-Income Affordability (ELLA) program and the Senior Affordable Rental Apartments (SARA) program, both designed to make housing accessible to older New Yorkers most in need.
Studios come with a space-saving Murphy bed and energy-efficient appliances. The building features on-site laundry, bike storage, package lockers, a recreation room, high-speed internet, and on-site social services. It’s also close to the 7 train and multiple bus lines (Q19, Q48, Q66).
No application fees or deposits are required. Apply here by May 5.
