The presidential election is just days away. As we’ve been telling you for the past few weeks, to help voters figure out how each candidate will impact their biggest concerns, we collaborated with local PBS station THIRTEEN WNET to produce three episodes of its digital series “Your Voice Matters. We explored three topics: affordable housing, child and elder care costs, and immigration. You can watch each episode below.

Most NYC renters can barely pay their rent

This episode explores many New Yorkers’ struggles when looking for affordable housing. We also dig into what voters who care about affordable housing should look for in a candidate and how this election could impact rent prices.

New Yorkers buried under child care and elder care costs

If you are the parent of a young child, you know how expensive child care is. In this story, we examine the crunch families face when looking for affordable care for their children (before they qualify for no-cost pre-K at age 3). We also look at the cost of elder care, including those who want to retain their culture and independence as they age. In between is the sandwich generation trying to juggle a lot without letting everyone down in the process.

Immigration in NYC: A city divided

Immigration is central to New York City’s identity, evidenced by neighborhoods like Little Italy and Chinatown. But what happens when many asylum seekers are concentrated in one neighborhood? In this episode, we break down the presidential candidates’ proposed immigration policies. We also visited Clinton Hill, where two large migrant shelters opened. And we spent some time in Queens, connecting with a basketball team aimed at helping immigrant children find community.
