Keeping in step with Epicenter’s priority of making the arts accessible and amplifying the important role it plays in building community, I recently joined the Community Advisory Council of Powerhouse Arts (PHA), a nonprofit organization committed to creative expression. PHA’s facility hosts an extended network of art and fabrication professionals and educators who work together to co-create and share artistic practices vital to the wellbeing of artists and their communities.

The Council serves as a cornerstone of PHA’s commitment to creating culturally relevant and community-led programming. By actively seeking community input, the council ensures that PHA’s programming, resources, and offerings resonate and are accessible to a diversity of individuals, creating an organization that reflects and celebrates the richness of our communities in Gowanus and New York City.

PHA is housed in a former 117-year-old power plant that is a wonder in its own right, and May 31st is Powerhouse Arts Community Day. Join PHA for a day of discovery and creative expression. Celebrate our community with a full day of hands-on activities, artist-led workshops, performances, and behind-the-scenes access to our historic Gowanus facility. Community Day happens once a year and is free and open to all.
