Last week, NYC schools Chancellor David Banks announced a school bus tracking system within Community School District 26 in Queens. The system is called Via Platform and it will provide real-time updates and tracking information of students on their commutes both to and from school. The platform is part of the NYC Student Transportation Modernization Plan, which is a multi-year project to modernize NYC’s student transportation system. District 26 covers neighborhoods in the eastern part of Queens, which lacks public transportation. The plan was originally introduced in 2019, but was halted due to Covid-19.
