The 2025 Community and Citywide Education Council (CCEC) elections are underway, offering NYC public school parents a vital opportunity to influence local education policies. These councils play a significant role in shaping school zoning, evaluating superintendents, and ensuring that parent voices are heard in decision-making processes.

Who can vote?

If you’re a parent or legal guardian of a child enrolled in a NYC public school (Pre-K through 12th grade), you’re eligible to vote– this includes families with children in District 75 programs. (Parents of students in charter or private schools are not eligible to participate in these elections.)

Community vs. Citywide

There are 32 Community Education Councils (CECs), each representing a specific school district, and four Citywide Education Councils focusing on:

  • High Schools
  • English Language Learners
  • Special Education
  • District 75 (students with significant disabilities)

Key dates

Voting period:  April 25- May 13, 2025

Results announced: June 2025

New term begins: July 1, 2025

Learn about each candidate

Before casting your vote, take the time to review candidate profiles and watch recorded forums to understand their visions and priorities. This information is available on the official NYC Department of Education elections page, where you will find candidate statements and their leadership experience, which is broken down by district. You can also search by name.

When choosing candidates, think about what is most important to you. For me, I want to see people who are passionate about equity, ensuring funding for various programs, and who want to encourage parent involvement. The candidate statements are a great way to decide who aligns most with what your vision for a school community looks like.

How to Vote

Voting is conducted online through your NYC Schools Account (NYCSA). If you don’t have an account, you can create one by obtaining an account creation code from your school’s parent coordinator.

Participating in this election is important for all NYC public school parents. It’s a chance for your voice to be heard, so that others don’t decide your child’s education for you. For more information and to participate in the elections, visit the Elections page.
