If you recall during Chancellor Banks’ address back in March, one of the pillars he shared of his new vision as chancellor was to “scale, sustain, and restore what works.” So last Friday, Banks announced that the city’s DOE would be moving 1,000 central and borough level staffers to district offices. The change is meant “to more effectively support schools in coordination with district superintendents,” It’s unclear exactly what roles these employees will now play, but a spokesperson for DOE said that it will “remove a bureaucratic layer in providing schools with direct support,” which has been part of Banks’ vision since he got into office.
