The Patrick J. McGovern Foundation announced a $75.8 million commitment across 149 grants in 13 countries, supporting institutions that strengthen civic infrastructure, media, and community power.
Thanks to the grant, Epicenter is now in its second year leading a community of practice that supports local news organizations in sharing knowledge about responsible and effective AI use in journalism.
“For small publishers, AI represents not just an innovation but a necessity for survival,” said S. Mitra Kalita, publisher of Epicenter. “The McGovern grant recognizes our commitment to transparently leverage technology for civic good, expands access and builds more informed communities.”
